Rabbit sold the r1 as a pocket companion powered by a "large action model". It was a handsome little orange box that was supposed to leapfrog apps and do things for you. In practice, the pitch was: what if your phone were smaller and worse?

Once review units escaped, the magic started looking familiar. It turned out the r1 software could run on a Pixel, and the "native" mystery box looked an awful lot like an Android app in a very nice case.
