George magazine
The first and last issues of George magazine
George was a glossy magazine built on the idea that politics would be healthier if it borrowed more from celebrity culture. This was an extremely 1995 thing to believe, and also one of the more cursed predictions in American media.
The first issue put Cindy Crawford on the cover dressed as George Washington and promised "Not Just Politics As Usual". The magazine wanted to demystify government by making it look cooler. Years later, his cousin RFK Jr. completed the thought experiment by turning celebrity politics into crank politics, then somehow into the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
