Anna Delvey
A framed drawing by Anna Delvey
Anna Sorokin became Anna Delvey by pretending to be a German heiress with a giant trust fund and then pitching the Anna Delvey Foundation, a private arts club for people rich enough to confuse confidence with collateral.
She was sentenced to 4 to 12 years in prison in 2019 after swindling banks, hotels, and friends out of about $275,000. A less committed operator might have taken this as a cue to lay low. Delvey made merch.
Netflix paid her $320,000 for life rights, her jailhouse drawings became a gallery attraction, and a later show came with a plan to sell fractional ownership in the art. Incredible work if you can get it, and apparently you can.
This print is supposedly 1/500. Maybe! I have no particular reason to trust that a known scammer stopped at 500, but that does improve the provenance.
