CueCat
A CueCat barcode scanner in its packaging
The CueCat was a plastic barcode scanner that let magazine readers avoid the exhausting work of typing a URL by instead swipe codes into their computers . This was, somehow, a business.
Digital Convergence distributed millions of them through major newspapers and magazines, then added a little surveillance garnish: their data collection prompted privacy concerns almost immediately.
The best thing anyone did with the CueCat was hack it almost immediately.
